The electricity market is expected to expand significantly in the coming years to ensure we meet the government’s targets for green energy as they aim to move away from the more traditional fossil fuels and more towards renewable energy and the introduction of electric cars.  As a result of this, the network is going to need significant reinforcement work which in turn means more package substations, more cable, more joints and so on.

Traditionally the lead time for a package substation has always been 10-14 weeks depending on specification but during the recent issues caused by COVID19 and Brexit this has been very inconsistent and in some instances going over 20 weeks.

Wolseley Infrastructure is aiming to change the way the market operates giving the Independent Distribution Network Operators (iDNO’s) and Independent Connections Providers (ICP’s) another option for both themselves and their clients.

We have made a significant stock investment in a range of DNO & iDNO specification transformers 315kVA to 1500kVA), ring main units including RTU’s where specified and low voltage cabinets including ACB’s giving us the ability to turn a package substation from quotation to delivery within 10 working days.

Also, from previous customer feedback, one of the main issues with substation deliveries is for the customer to coordinate the GRP housing to ensure it arrives after the substation but on the same day.  As we use our own vehicles and have control of the substation builds we have the ability to ensure the housings are available from stock and delivered on the same vehicle as the substation and therefore minimising any issues for the contractors on site.
